A most interesting site. I was amazed to find this facinating information, for I too am a Brinsmead. My name is Glen and I live in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. My father was Reginald, son of Victor who was a son of Thomas Edward in turn nephew of John Brinsmead (piano). Victor arrived in Tasmania in 1913. Regards Glen.

Hello all. I have just discovered that my Grandfather, Thomas Brinsmead Williams was married 3 times. Trying to discover the info so it can be added although it won't make any difference to tree. Also I think he had more siblings than I know of so there may be a few Brinsmeads still "knocking" around. Regards to all Tessa
My grandfather was William Latey who was married to my grandmother Annie Emily Brinsmead.
Hello, I am Alan William Brinsmead, originally of Worthing England. My uncle, John Brinsmead, has recently made me aware of your web site which I have found very interesting. I am presently living in Penang Malaysia. On the wall of my apartment is an original picture advert from a Victorian newspaper for John Brinsmead & Sons If you would like me to scan this in and send it to you, please let me have your e mail address. Thank you alanwb@bigfoot.com
I am in awe of your wonderful site. I have just started research on my husband's family and his grandmother was Florence Brinsmead who married John Sidey. Her father was Edgar William Brinsmead. Tia Sidey sidey@erols.com

Hello Andy, Just updating anything New. Would you like to Add anything on the Australia's or keep it Uk Mainly. Greg
I am searching for more information about my gt gt grandfather George Heanes Youatt (1812~95) who almost certainly trained as a cabinet maker with John Brinsmead (who was two years younger) in Great Torrington, Devon. Another piano maker who probably went up to London in 1836 with them from Great Torrington was John Squires (the same age as George).
GHY advertised in Trade Directories, and had a shop at 128 Regents Park Road from c.1865~92. Before that he was at 105 Prince of Wales Road, before that at 3 Stanhope Street, and I have verified all these addresses with Census returns and family documents. A family letter of 1849 refers to a trip by GHY to France with John which I suspect may be a visit to a French firm.
Since he did not take out any patents, I imagine that GHY was a good cabinet maker but not an innovative piano maker like Brinsmead, but he made a respectable living out of his shops, and one of his three sons joined him in the business which closed in 1892.
An 1849 family portrait in my possession shows GHY with his eldest son (who moved to Manchester and played in the Halle) sitting in front of a Youatt pianoforte. I have a distant cousin who once saw a Youatt piano-player which he guesses must have been a conversion. Unfortunately he didn't realise the significance of it at the time and none of us has ever seen another.
Please could you let me know if you ever hear of him? I have searched St Pancras and Hampstead newspapers with no luck, but propose to go soon to Colindale library to see the Piano Trades Journal.

Hello all Brinsmeads. I have found the Sims site very interesting and have passed it to my nephew in Penang, Alan Brinsmead, plus of course my son Keith and daughter Jane. My grandfather,it appears was Edward George Stanley Brinsmead. I found some of the more recent history most interesting as I, my brother, and father are all mentioned. Further information would be appreciated. Many thanks John Brinsmead. johnbrins@btopenworld.com
I was delighted to find the history of the Brinsmead family on the internet. I am researching my family, the BEERs, from North Devon, which so far traces back to Huntshaw, a parish very close to Weare Gifford where Elizabeth BEER (bp. 28.1.1781) who married Henry Brinsmead came from. There are many BEER / BEAREs in North Devon and I have not yet been able to link my line to the BEERs of Weare Gifford. If anyone else is searching for BEERs in the area I would be happy to make contact with them. Jackie Ellison ellison@tecres.net
You have a wonderfull website. I am a descendant of Dougal Livingston and Ellen(Helen) Brimsmead, their oldest daughter Ann is my gggrandmother. did you happen to notice there is an Anne Brimsmead living with the Steele family in 1861. Film C1073 Dist 2 Page 25, District of Orillia. She is 75 years old and a widow. Possible she could be Richards widow and maybe Ellen's mom. Just a theory. Dougal did end up owning Richards land in Medonte by 1858, per the tax assessment, so Richard could have died between 1836 and 1857. Anyway I would appreciate any and all help regarding this family as the information is very sketchy. Thankyou Wendy Gust Burnaby, B.C.
I forgot to include my email address Wendy Gust wgust@sprint.ca Thankyou again for your wonderful site.
excted to see the family tree hope to corresppppond with other Brinsmeads. Sincerely, Donald Bruce Brinsmead. Donaldo_b@hotmail.com

hello, I am hoping you may have some more information on the Brinsmead's lime kilns and lime making activities? As you probably know Bideford appears in Charles kingsley's novel 'Westward Ho!' as the "little white town". This description comes from the white limewash that was used extensively to paint the stone houses of bideford. The Brinsmeads would have been one of the local lime suppliers for the many houses built in bideford in the 18th and 19th century. Any information you may have would be very appreciated. V.Adams. Enjoyed reading the site, although not linked to the Brinsmead side of the family, I am the great grand daughter of Thomas Couch, Shoemaker, who lived in St Giles and was attending the first services with William Brinsmead. My family, the Kennetts, lived in St Giles for a good many years, after Violet Couch, Thomas's daughter, married the huntsman Harold Kennett,Stevenson Hunt. If you have any further info, I would be delighted to receive it. Great work.
